Welcome to Nanoscience and Technology at the Bharathiar University
The department of Nanoscience and Technology was established in the academic year 2007 – 2008 with the goal to bring down nanotechnology within the reach of society. Aim of this multidisciplinary Nanoscience and Technology program is to educate the student in both science and technology in the nanometer scale and to instill a deep understanding of this field that originates from the contributing disciplines. The Tamilnadu Government sanctioned 1 crore rupees and the University allotted 35 lakhs in the 2007 - 2008 budget to increase the infrastructure facilities and to buy research instruments. This grant is fully utilized to purchase Raman spectrometer, Atomic Force Microscope and DC/RF Magnetron sputtering unit. The new state-of-the-art building is constructed with the approximate cost of Rs.3 crore and it will be functioning within June 2010. The department is actively conducting research on the following topics: nanostructured materials, thin films, bio-sensors, magnetic materials and thin films, biomedical applications of nanoparticles, polymer nanocomposites and drug delivery. One of our faculty heading the DRDO funded major research project at the cost of approximately 2.5 crore. The faculties having more than 200 research papers published in international and national SCI journals. Also the faculties are delivering lectures in the area of nanomaterials and thin films in various academic institutions to popularize the nanomaterials research.
National Conference on Multifunctional Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites (NCMNN-2013)
The Department is going to organize a Third National Conference on Mutifunctional Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites on February 25-26, 2013 at Department of Nanoscience and Technology
